Patrick is a Senior Project Manager/Senior Architect and a Principal at JDD Studio and has been practicing Architecture since 1997 with project types specializing in Education and Arts Organizations; and ranging to private residences, libraries, commercial buildings, and retail work. Patrick believes that these project types carry a common approach to what Architecture is in the modern world. Architecture is an attempt to create a special environment for human life, and to image the thoughts and actions of human beings as they wish themselves to be. Simply put, we define our Architecture and Architecture is a tool that helps us grow into who we want to become. It is a tool that can have great impact from simple thoughtful decisions on how we wish to live.
Patrick has distinguished himself by constantly seeking innovative and creative solutions to both design and construction issues in projects of all types. His designs emerge from careful research of program and site context and are executed with the understanding of construction methods and thorough material selection and detailing. Patrick’s most recent designs include the International Institute of Minnesota, Product Design Major and Entrepreneurial Studies studios at Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD), The Blake School Ice Arena and the Upper School’s Center for Science, Design, and Research, Creative Company publishing facility, and the AIA Honor Award winning Minnetonka Center for the Arts. Prior to joining JDD in 1999, Patrick worked for Meyer, Scherer & Rockcastle in Minneapolis and Hokanson Lunning Assoc., Inc in St. Paul Minnesota.
Patrick has been a guest design critic for both graduate and undergraduate design studios at the University of Minnesota College of Design (CDes) and the Dunwoody Architecture School, is an annual juror for the U of MN Mechanical Engineering Robot project, and a professional mentor to graduate architecture students at the University of Minnesota College of Design. Patrick served as a member of the City of Deephaven Parks Committee and was its Chair. Patrick is a board member of FOCI Minnesota Center for Glass Arts. A proponent that we all need make with our own hands, Patrick builds furniture, does metal work, and has just completed a bottom to top restoration of a 1975 Searay runabout.
